Will Cam Newton play for the Philadelphia Eagles?
Cam Newton has been released from the Carolina Panthers. According to Adam Shefter Cam had a physical yesterday and passed for both his shoulder and foot. The 2011 first-rounder, 2015 NFC Champion, and 2015 NFL MVP is free to sign with any team in the NFL. Newton a.k.a Superman has been the face of the Carolina Panthers for the last nine years but has dealt with nagging injuries the last two years that have caused him to miss all but two games in 2019. Now that Cam is free, he’s arguably the top free agent on the market.

Despite his overwhelming success, Newton has had many teams shy away from taking a chance on the former MVP’s $19 million salary.
Many of the QB jobs thought to be available this offseason have been filled. The teams that might still be seeking include the New England Patriots and Los Angeles Chargers. Although these teams might be a good fit, I’d argue that the best fit for Cam is the Philadelphia Eagles. Wait, before you flip out and say “THEY ALREADY HAVE CARSON WENTZ!”, relax. Wentz would be safe as long as he stays healthy. Let’s face it, Wentz has been injured every season he’s been in the NFL. Last year, he took the Eagles to the playoffs but was knocked out with a concussion in the first series, and the Birds ended up losing in the first round to Russel Wilson and the Seahawks.
I love Carson Wentz, but I think he’s an injury waiting to happen. The Eagles and every team needs a great backup who can come in and not lose a beat. I know some of you may argue that Cam is injury prone as well, but he’s not. Before 2017, Newton had missed less than three regular-season games in 7 years. He pretty much single-handedly carried the Panthers to the Super Bowl in 2015 and was considered one of the toughest players in the NFL. Newton’s aggressive playing style and athletic ability make him the type of dual threat that continues to take the NFL by storm. 2019 MVP Lamar Jackson and Super Bowl Champ/MVP Patrick Mahomes both have had success with playing styles similar to Cam’s. I believe all teams should have two starting-caliber quarterbacks. Injury in the NFL is inevitable for all positions— why not have an insurance plan for QB?
